Museums near Little Compton include Mount Hope Farm, the Bristol Art Museum, Herreshoff Marine Museum and Americas Cup Hall of Fame, and Blithewold Mansion Gardens and Arboretum. There is a 14.5 mile paved hiking and biking trail, and boating, fishing and sailing on Narragansett Bay. Little Compton's location in the East Bay Region offers lots of shopping and dining choices, museums and recreational opportunities. A town landmark is the "Spite Tower." The tower was built in 1905 and there is considerable local lore about the original purpose of the tower. Sites of interest include the Wilbor House (1692) and the Quaker Meeting House. There are a few 17-century structures in Little Compton, and many from the 18th and 19th centuries. The entire town commons area is listed on the National Register of Historic Place. It's also the location of one of only three town commons in the state of Rhode Island. Little Compton has many historical homes and buildings and 57 historical cemeteries. As of the 2010 census, the population was 3,492. Little Compton lies between the Sakonnet River and the border of the state of Massachusetts. West Bay refers to the area on the west side of Narragansett Bay. East Bay contains the communities of Bristol, Barrington, Little Compton, Tiverton and Warren. Narragansett Bay divides the state into two parts. Little-Compton is one of the towns of the area known as "East Bay" on the coast of Rhode Island.
